Islamabad, Nov 5 : A senior leader of the Awami National Party was gunned down by suspected militants in Pakistan's restive northwest on Monday, police said.

Sabihullah Khan, who was the vice-president of a local chapter of the ANP, was gunned down in Battagram area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

Police said  Khan was on his way home when unidentified gunmen intercepted his car and opened fire.
He was killed instantly while a friend was injured in the shooting.

Khan was attacked in Darabo village in Shabqadar tehsil's Battagram area. One other person was also injured in the attack

No group claimed responsibility for the incident though such attacks are usually blamed on the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.

Scores of workers and leaders of the ANP have died in attacks by the Taliban over the past four years.

The ANP rules Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province and is a partner in the ruling coalition at the centre.
