The US has said it welcomes the "pragmatic and direct" talks between India and Pakistan, days after high-level discussions were held between the two countries.  "We encourage this kind of pragmatic and direct dialogue. We think there can be benefits to both countries," State Department spokesman P J Crowley, said when asked about the recent talks between Home Minister P Chidambaram, and his Pakistani counterpart Rehman Malik in Islamabad.

Crowley said as to the nature of the cooperation and the sharing of information between the two countries was concerned, "that was obviously decisions to be made by the respective governments".  He said this in response to a question on the sharing of information by intelligence agencies of the two countries.  "Security cooperation is already a dimension of our relationship with each of those countries," he said when asked if the US has any role in intelligence sharing between the two countries.
