The diva amazed everybody with her phenomenal performance in ‘The Lunchbox’ three years ago and won our hearts recently in ‘Airlift’. We are talking about the gorgeous Nimrat Kaur. Though the diva has been in the industry for quite a long time, but it is only now that she is making her way into the mainstream cinema. Nimrat has carved a niche for herself not just in India but also at the international level. Her debut film was an English film ‘One Night With The King’ after which she bagged a role in Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Peddler’ in 2012. Nimrat has also been associated with the American sitcom ‘Homeland’ in which she plays the role of an ISI agent. As Nimrat Kaur turns 34 today, we bring you some lesser known facts about the diva:
Nimrat Kaur’s father was in the Indian Army and martyred in 1994 while fighting against terrorists in Kashmir. She has a younger sister Rubine who is a psychologist, based in Bangalore.
She studied at Lady Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University. During this time she attended Local Theaters as well.
She worked as a print model before becoming a theater actress. She appeared in plays such as Baghdad Wedding (2012), All About Women and Red Sparrow, working with directors like Sunil Shanbag and Manav Kaul.
She first came into limelight when she appeared in the music video of ‘Tera Mera Pyar’ by Kumar Sanu and ‘Yeh Kya Hua’ by Shreya Ghoshal in 2004.
She has also appeared in number of TV advertisements but got public attention in Cadbury Dairy Milk Silk’s commercial.
Nimrat rose to fame with Ritesh Batra's ‘The Lunchbox’ starring Irrfan Khan and Nawazuddin Siddique in lead roles.
Nimrat Kaur has attended Cannes twice. Once for ‘Peddler’ and then for ‘The Lunchbox’.
After the success of ‘The Lunchbox’, Nimrat rejected over 27 to 30 roles before finally signing ‘Airlift’.
In 2013, she won Amazonas Film Festival Award for Best Actress and in 2014, she won Vogue Beauty Award for Fresh Face.
Nimrat Kaur was honoured with GR8 Women Award for Contribution To Cinema in 2015.
