Whether it’s for adventure, freedom, self-confidence, or independence, women bikers are taking to motorcycles with an enhanced voracity. To empower the womanhood and to acknowledge the achievements of women, March 8 is celebrated as International Women’s Day every year. To channelize the same enthusiasm, a number of all-women biking groups have been set up across the country, that are specifically signified for women, by women. Here we’ll introduce you to seven trailblazer all-women biking groups:
Biking Queens: Based out of Surat, Gujarat, the Biking Queens was founded by Dr Sarika Mehta in 2015. This is one of those famous female riding groups that has made a significant impression in the Women Motorcycle Riding Groups in the nation. Sarika created this clan of female riders to substantiate respect for the women biking and intoxicate the hidden potential of females in Surat. The group consists of total 45 members who define their group in three words viz. “Passion-Respect-Contribution”. The growing interest of ladies in biking led to creation of Biking Queens. All the ladies from Surat who want to ride on two wheels and want to work for society welfare can join the community.
Hop On Gurls: A Bengaluru-based Bullet riding group, the Hop On Gurls was founded by Bindu Reddy in 2011. This group helps several passionate and ambitious lady bikers to realize their aspiration for biking. The biking club fulfills the dream of all the women who want to ride a Royal Enfield and conquer open roads across the globe. The community teaches the female enthusiasts to ride a Bullet motorcycle and motivates women to give the wings to their dreams of hitting the streets on a Bullet. Apart from teaching, the Hop On Gurls group also ties up with other bikers group to go on long rides. This group boasts of branches in Pune and Mysore.
Ladies of Harley: An extension of Harley Owners’ Group HOG, Ladies of Harley LOH is a riding group for women who share their fondness of owning and riding a Harley. This is a group of fun-loving, creative, professional and amazing female bikers from diverse backgrounds to encourage and support women riders. Whether on-road or off-road, the group believes in freedom. You can also express your love for Harleys by joining the group. The female owners of Harley-Davidson bikes in India were present at the India Bike Week 2016 to celebrate their womanhood.
Lady Riders of India: Maral Yazarloo has been a member of different biking groups for a long time and finally decided to create an all-women group for the female bike enthusiasts across the nation. This group is all about exploring the depth of the passion for riding bikes. Named as Lady Riders of India, the group comprises women riders who love riding larger capacity motorcycles, be it a Harley, a Ducati, a BMW or any 650cc and higher motorcycles. The ‘Lady Riders of India’ group has recently attended India’s largest biking festival, the India Bike Week, that was held in February in Goa.
The Bikerni: Founded in 2011, The Bikerni is the first and largest all-women motorcyclists group started by Urvashi Patole. This is the only women’s biking group in India that has been officially recognised by the Women’s International Motorcycling Association. The Bikerni is a common platform for all age groups to come together and share the same goal of women empowerment via motorcycling. This group is led by the core committee of the founder, along with Sheetal Bidaye and Chithra Priya.
Biker Babez: Love Motocross and drag racing This is the place to be Biker Babez takes the passion of riding to a whole new level. They believe that success only comes to those who don’t give up and achieve what they really want to. The ‘Biker Babez’ was founded by Sindy Soundari in 2013 with two girls and now it is a strong headed group of 10 girls. They describe their group as ladies who ride “Safe and Smart”. Sindy’s aim to form this group is to motivate other females to step forward to become a motorcyclist. The team also organises awareness rides and rallies in Chennai regardless of their busy schedules.
The Riderni: Founded in 2012, the Riderni is an Ahmedabad-based biking group for women established by Anjaly Rajan. She is an ultimate woman who loves to flaunt her individuality as a female biker as well as loves to overcome her limitations. She’s been riding a motorcycle for last 10 years. The Riderni is all about finding new destinations to ride to and liberating oneself. Anjaly started this group with four female riders and now the group has more than 20 lady bikers. All the members of the club own more than the 200cc capacity motorcycle and share the same free spirit of a biker. Besides, the fun and the adventure, they have participated in a rally against substance abuse as well.
