  • Today is the 24th World Water Day. A day celebrated on March 22 every year which focuses our attention on the importance of freshwater and advocates the sustainable management of freshwater resources. This day reminds us of the fact that more than half a billion people in the world still don't have access to safe water. Yet, 76 million Indians are still without safe water, 12 million more than China. About 20 drink water from sources that are deemed unsafe. With the world water crisis representing one of the most significant public health issues facing the world today, we need to find ways to conserve this precious resource now more than ever.

  • Turn off the taps. Leaving a tap running while brushing teeth wastes 6 litres of water a minute. And by fixing a dripping tap you can save over 60 litres of water a week. Don’t leave the tap running needlessly. If you are washing your face and you need to get the tap warm, use that initial cooler water to brush your teeth, and then wash your face afterwards when the hot water starts coming out.

  • Compost Food Scraps. If you use a water-hogging garbage disposal to get rid of kitchen waste, it's time to get back to nature by composting. By doing so you can conserve loads of water. You can also just toss your scraps into a plastic bin filled with moist bedding, and the worms do the rest — effortlessly and odor-free. The resulting soil is ideal for houseplants, gardens, or patio containers.
