End limit for cash withdrawals: Mamata Banerjee tells CentreTraining her guns on the Modi government, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday demanded that the government should withdraw the limits on cash withdrawal from ATMs and cash counters as well.
Training her guns on the Modi government, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday demanded that the government should withdraw the limits on cash withdrawal from ATMs and cash counters as well.
The Chief Minister said that people will ‘not forgive’ the ruling government for its ‘disastrous’ decision.
"I am appealing to the Centre to take back all limits on cash withdrawal immediately. Central government has once again made us dependent despite so many years of Independence. Democratic and political rights are meaningless without financial rights," she said in Sukna on the last day of her visit to North Bengal.
"The financial freedom of common people was taken away and they are still suffering due to demonetisation. They are not able to withdraw money from banks," the Chief Minister added.
She also accused the government of deliberately targeting TMC leaders for opposing the demonetisation drive.
Nobody was ‘touched’, but only the TMC was targeted because ‘we protested against demonetisation’, Banerjee said.
"Sudip Bandyopadhyay (TMC leader in the Lok Sabha) is innocent. He has committed no fault. This is political vendetta, nothing else,” the TMC supremo said.
The TMC, which is opposing the demonetisation drive, has intensified its agitation against the Modi government after the arrest of party MPs Tapas Paul and Sudip Bandyopadhyay in the alleged Rose Valley chit fund scam.
