Days after the Congress party, in its tirade against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, unintentionally showed up its UP chief ministerial candidate and former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit as a recipient of Rs 1 crore in ‘Sahara diaries’, the party veteran come out to deny the charges, saying there is no truth in the allegations.

“There is no iota of truth in the allegations. I totally reject these allegations,” the former Delhi CM said.

The Congress party tweeted from its official handle seeking response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP over alleged payment received by the then chief minister of Gujarat and other BJP CMs in 2013 by Sahara group.

Inadvertently or otherwise, the Congress party probably missed out on the fact that Dikshit’s name also featured in the list, creating trouble.

The records, that Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi has formed a basis for attacking Modi of corruption, showed up a payment of about Rs 1 crore in cash to Dikshit on September 23, 2013, in Delhi. Dikshit served as the CM of Delhi until December 2013.

BJP immediately latched on to the issue, saying there cannot be double standards and that Rahul was “whipping a dead horse” as the apex court has already cleared the matter while parties like JD(U), RJD and NCP demanded that everyone mentioned in the diaries be probed.

“There cannot be double standards but Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and their spokespersons are making stupid mistakes time and again. A horse has died and his death has been certified by the Supreme Court,” BJP national Secretary Siddharth Nath Singh said.

Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi, he said the Congress leader “should have gained wisdom by now, he is no more a child”.
