With restoring law and order in the state among the top stated priorities for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday effected a major reshuffle in police ranks, transferring 625 police personnel with suspected criminal links.

Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Javeed Ahmed announced that 625 police personnel with suspected criminal links have been transferred to different regions on administrative grounds.

"625 cops with suspected criminal links transferred to different regions on administrative grounds. More being identified," he tweeted.

Most of the transfers, that largely included constables, were in Ghaziabad, Meerut and Noida.

In March, a few days after Adityanath was sworn-in as the new Chief Minister of the state, police had suspended over 100 cops for negligence in duty.

Yesterday, the government had transferred 41 IAS officers in the second such drill in less than a week. The government has shunted out tainted Vice Chairman of Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) Satyendra Singh.

Among those transferred were a number of divisional commissioners and district magistrates.

In its first major bureaucratic reshuffle on April 12, the state government had transferred 20 senior IAS officers shunting out Principal Secretary (Information) Navneet Sehgal and others who wielded considerable influence under the Akhilesh Yadav dispensation.
