The brief meeting between the two took place immediately after the Speaker adjourned the House for the day due to uproar over the demonetisation drive.
According to reports, though the Congress party termed it as part of the proceedings, sources said that the Congress president is believed to have expressed concern over the non-functioning of the Parliament.
She also said that her party was ready to take part in the discussion, they said, adding that the two were together for about 5-10 minutes.
Meanwhile, giving details about how the meeting took place, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that Mahajan had called up to wish Sonia on her birthday but she was not available at that time. Afterwards, when the Lok Sabha was adjourned briefly till 12 noon because of uproar, Sonia went to the Speaker's chamber.
Sonia’s meeting with Mahajan comes a day after veteran BJP leader LK Advani called on the Speaker expressing dismay over the disruptions in the House.
The Congress president yesterday also met Advani in the Parliament and thanked him for his birthday greetings to her.
The Winter Session of the Parliament, which ends on December 16, is heading towards a complete washout over the demonetisation move. The Parliament has failed to transact any business due to continuous uproar by the opposition parties over government’s November 8 decision.
