Months after undergoing a kidney transplant surgery at the AIIMS here, External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj today attended the Parliament session and expressed grave concern over hate crimes against Indians living the US.

Participating in the Question Hour session in the Lok Sabha, the 64-year-old leader reiterated that the safety and security of Indians abroad is the top priority of her government.

The minister had skipped the Winter Session of Parliament last December as well as the first part of the Budget Session on account of her illness.

Besides, she had missed several crucial foreign trips and meetings including those with top world leaders like British PM Theresa May and then New Zealand PM John Key.

Swaraj is known for her sense of humour, and her proactive approach in addressing the grievances of Indians living abroad has often invited praise even from opposition parties.

During her stay at the hospital, Swaraj remained active and was seen keeping herself busy with the works of her Ministry.

Swaraj, a severe diabetic patient, had late last year undergone treatment for kidney failure at AIIMS. Earlier in April, she had underwent treatment for pneumonia and other health issues here.
