Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Bhartiaya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Saturday thanked the people of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand for the party's "historic victory" in the two states and attributed the win to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.

Rajnath said the party has changed the political narrative in the country with the win in 2017 Assembly elections.

"We thank all the people of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand for this historic victory and express gratitude towards them. The credit of victory goes to organisational ability of our national President (Amit Shah) and the hardwork of party workers," he said in a series of tweets.

Singh said the BJP's win in the elections is a win of "Prime Minister Narendra Modi's credibility in the public, his able leadership and party's commitment to good governance."

“The BJP has changed the political picture of the country by touching the new era of success in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand," he tweeted.

"This is not a victory but a mega victory. The BJP has changed the political narrative of the country by touching new heights of success in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand," he said.

BJP President Amit Shah also thanked the "people of UP for placing their trust in BJP."

"Thanks to all party workers, Narendra Modi ji and Keshav Prasad Maurya ji for securing a win by two third majority in Uttar Pradesh. This is a win of BJP’s ideology and people’s trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s welfare and development schemes," BJP president said in a series of tweets.

"I thank the people of UP for placing their trust in BJP and giving a historical mandate," Shah added.

"This is the victory of the corruption-free rule and pro-poor policies under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi," he tweeted as he congratulated party leaders and workers for the victory in UP and Uttarakhand.

He also greeted the people for keeping faith in the BJP. The saffron party with its allies is projected to win over 300 seats out of 403, an unprecedented feat in its electoral history.

In 1991 when it achieved its biggest victory, it had won 221 seats in the state.

In Uttarakhand, BJP is leading or won 56 seats in 70-member Assembly.
