Murshidabad, Jul 21: Violence continued to rock Panchayat elections in West Bengal with at least three Congress party workers killed and several others, including two policemen, injured ahead of tomorrow's fourth and last phase of polling.

Two Congress workers, Nurmohhamad Sheikh and Ahad Ali, died when they were hit by crude bombs hurled by rival party supporters at Kapasdanga under Beldanga Police Station of Murshidabad district late last night.

Another party worker Repon Sheikh met a similar fate at Bharatpur during a clash between rival party supporters, police said.

Sporadic incidents of clash, including hurling of bombs and stone pelting, continued in the troubled district which left several injured including two policemen in Kapasdanga area.

Murshidabad district Congress spokesman Ashok Das alleged that his party workers were targeted by the ruling TMC with active help from the CPI (M) cadres.

Panchayat polls are scheduled to held in the district tomorrow. Three persons were killed in the second phase of the polling while four others lost their lives in the penultimate phase.
A report from South 24 Parganas said 100 houses belonging to RSP workers were vandalised and looted and 40 of them were set on fire allegedly by Trinamool Congress members in Basanti today.

Police said the violence took place today at Nirdeshkhali village during the morning hours which left a child injured.

A large number of policemen were later posted in the area.

RSP sources alleged that the police arrived late at the spot.

When contacted, TMC denied ints involvement in the incident and said it was instead the party which was facing violence after the panchayat polls in the district on Friday.

A total 17 TMC workers and supporters and four policemen were injured in clash with RSP at Jharkhali yesterday. The injured had been transferred to Kolkata, Basanti and Canning hospitals.

On the polling day two persons - one SUCI and one TMC worker were killed in violent clashes in the district. The body of a TMC worker and polling agent was fished out a pond at Diamond Harbour yesterday but it is yet to ascertained whether the man had died due to violence.
