New Delhi, June 22: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Saturday once again postponed its planned `jail bharo' agitation in view of the massive floods in Uttarakhand.

This is the second time the party postponed the agitation against the "scams, corruption, price-rise and misuse of constitutional institutions" by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, scheduled from June 17 to 30.

Originally scheduled from May 27 to June 2, the agitation was then postponed following a Maoist attack on a convoy of Congress leaders in Chhattisgarh.

A statement from the BJP said party president Rajnath Singh visited the flood effected area, and seeing the gravity of the situation, has urged Home Minister P. Chidambaram to rethink on his decision not to declare it a national calamity.

The statement says the BJP considers it a national calamity, and hence has postponed its nation wide `jail bharo' agitation.

"The BJP workers across the country are directed to stop preparation for the jail bharo agitation, and start collecting relief material and ensure it reaches people in Uttarakhand," the statement said.
