Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Monday  lashed out at the Shiv Sena for criticising ace cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and practising politics of hatred.

"It would be much better if the Shiv Sena left Sachin alone and instead devoted time towards constructive politics that unites people instead of dividing them," Singh told reporters in Bhopal.

More than 200 years ago, only fishermen used to live in what is called Mumbai today and even the Thackerays had come to the city from outside, he said.

The Congress general secretary said the Sena and MNS had not uttered a word during the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai, when commandos from North and South India had come to save the city.

"During the three days that the terror attacks lasted in Mumbai, the Shiv Sena and MNS chose to keep mum and did not issue even a single statement," he said.

When pointed out that the Shiv Sena's mouthpiece 'Saamana' was also spewing hatred, Singh said the present laws were not enough to tackle it and needed to be strengthened. PTI
