Kanpur:  Senior BJP leader Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, who had been sulking after the Varanasi seat was taken away from him to field prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, today said he would prefer to remain an honest worker rather than become a corrupt minister.

Dr Joshi was addressing his first election meeting in Kanpur, from where he is contesting. The meeting was held at Teachers Park on Parade Square.

The octagenarian leader said, he would continue to fight corruption in politics.

"I never imagined that I would contest election in the constituency of a minister involved in Coalgate scam", he said, referring to Sri Prakash Jaiswal, the Coal Minister, who is contesting on Congress ticket.

Dr Joshi sought the blessings of the people in the elections. He promised to make Kanpur "corruption-free and crime-free".
