Kolkata: Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy, who has been asked by CBI to appear before it in connection with the Saradha chitfund scam, today said he would be available for questioning by the agency after January 27 on return here from Delhi.
Roy told PTI that he had made this request to CBI through an email.
“I have stated that I would be busy in connection with the Netaji birth anniversary programmes on January 23, Republic Day parade on January 26 and I have been invited to attend the At Home function at Rashtrapati Bhavan on that day. I have said that you can ask me to appear any time after 2 pm on January 28”, he said.
“I have said you (CBI) can call me any time after 2 pm on January 28 or on January 29 or on January 30 and I will appear (before CBI) and participate in the investigation”, Roy said.
Roy said he would return to Kolkata on January 27. CBI sources said during the day that it would take a decision on Roy tomorrow.
CBI sources told PTI “there are three options before the agency: either to give a fresh date for appearance before CBI or to issue a court-issued arrest warrant or to interrogate him in Delhi”.
“A final decision will be taken tomorrow”, the sources said.
Roy, former Railway Minister who is now in Delhi, was earlier asked to appear before CBI for interrogation by today.
CBI had said that interrogation of Roy was important to frame charge sheet against West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra who has been arrested in connection with the Saradha scam and is now in jail custody.
