New Delhi:  The Centre would shortly introduce a bill that encompasses global best practices in road transportation and safety standards, union minister Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday.

The minister for road transport, highways and shipping was addressing the International Conference and Exhibition on Public Transport Innovation - 2015 here.

Gadkari emphasised the adoption of new technologies like GPS-based system, passenger information system, CCTV, automatic fare collection system and electronic ticket vending in the transport sector to increase its efficacy.

He asked the Indian automobile manufacturers to ensure international standards in vehicle manufacture, pointing out that vehicles needed to be of good quality and reasonably priced.

The minister underlined the use of bio-diesel and other alternate fuels to reduce pollution and stressed that the government was committed to improve the safety of Indian roads.

Gadkari said his vision was to make the functioning of the transport sector corruption-free and transparent.

Anant Geete, union minister of heavy industries and public enterprises, assured the transport and highways ministry of full cooperation towards the development of automobiles that were in line with the 'Make in India' vision suggesting incentives for manufacturers.
