PCB suspends pacer Mohammad Irfan in spot-fixing...

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday suspended Mohammad Irfan in connection with a spot-fixing case during the recently concluded Pakistan Super League.

The PCB issued a statement which stated that the pacer was issued a Notice of Charge under the board’s anti-corruption code.

It is reported that Irfan appeared before PCB’s anti-corruption unit on Monday and admitted that a bookie made a contract during the PSL, and that he did not report the matter to the cricket board.

Irfan said that he had not informed the PCB about the approach as he had been under mental duress due to the recent death of his parents.

Irfan has been charged with two violations of the PCB Anti Corruption Code and suspended with immediate effect from all formats of cricket.

Irfan has been charged with two violations of Code Article 2.4.4 and now has 14 days to respond to the Notice of Charge.

The PCB’s anti-corruption code 2.4.4 states: “Failing to disclose to the PCB Vigilance and Security Department (without unnecessary delay) full details of any approaches or invitations received by the Participant to engage in Corrupt Conduct under this Anti-Corruption Code.”

Other than Irfan, Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif and Shahzaid Hasan were also accused of allegedly meeting the bookie soon after the inaugural PSL match between Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United in Dubai.

While Sharjeel and Khalid were immediately sidelined, the PCB allowed Irfan and Shahzaib to continue playing in the league after initial inquiries.
