KHULNA, Bangladesh: Imrul Kayes reached an unbeaten 35 as Bangladesh made a cautious start to the first Test against Pakistan, reaching 60-1 at lunch on the opening day.

Kayes was batting with Mominul Haque yet to score at the beak after Tamim Iqbal made 25 before being dismissed by legspinner Yasir Shah shortly before the lunch.

Iqbal and Kayes shared a watchful 52 after Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first on a placid at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium pitch.

The Pakistani bowlers combined for a disciplined attack throughout the morning session and created a genuine chance to remove Kayes and Tamim, an in-form batsman who tormented the visitors in the limited overs game.

Kayes offered an easy catch off left-armed spinner Zulfiqar Babar, but Yasir Shah failed to take the catch and the ball eventually crossed the boundary rope for a four.

Tamim was on 16 when he edged a seemingly simple catch to backward short leg, which Mohammad Hafeez failed to grip.

Shah made the breakthrough with the wicket of Tamim, who struck three fours on his 74-ball knock.

Bangladesh is looking for its first test win over Pakistan after completing a 3-0 whitewash in the three-match limited-overs series and winning the lone Twenty20 international.
