Nairobi, Kenya, Jul 19: Cricket Kenya has appointed New Zealander Mike Hesson as its new national coach on a two-year contract.

Hesson replaces West Indian Eldine Baptiste, who left the role following the country's poor World Cup.

Cricket Kenya says the 36-year-old-Hesson was coach of provincial side Otago, and has worked with New Zealand A and the full New Zealand team.

Hesson says on Tuesday the appointment is “a real honor” and an “exciting new coaching opportunity.”

Cricket Kenya chief executive Tom Sears says Hesson “demonstrated a real desire and clear vision to take our national team forward.”

Baptiste left in April after Kenya lost every one of its six games at the World Cup, including a hefty 10-wicket defeat by New Zealand. AP
