Islamabad, Jul 15: The Pakistan Cricket Board is resisting urges to reduce the government's key role in the sport, as the International Cricket Council presses for reform of the troubled cricket nation.

A task force that included the likes of cricket greats Mike Brearley and Greg Chappell compiled a report on the state of the game in Pakistan and among its recommendations was to remove Pakistan president Asif Zardari as the PCB's all-powerful patron.

However the PCB disagreed, saying "the extraordinary security situation in the country" meant "having the president as patron of PCB adds tremendous value and comfort."

The disagreement inhibits the chances of reform in Pakistan, whose team remains effectively banned from hosting home internationals due to security threats. AP
