Shanghai, July 29: The world swimming championships has had its second dead heat for a gold medal, with Jeanette Ottesen of Denmark and Aliaksandra Herasimenia both finishing in a time of 53.45 seconds in the women's 100-meter freestyle.

Ranomi Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands took the bronze in a time of 53.66.

In the men's 100 backstroke Tuesday, Camille Lacourt and Jeremy Stravius of France finished in a dead heat for gold

Britta Steffen of Germany, the defending champion and world record holder in the women's 100, dropped out of any remaining races after finishing 16th Thursday in morning heats.

Daniel Gyurta of Hungary overtook Olympic champion Kosuke Kitajima on the final lap to win gold in the 200-meter breaststroke at the world swimming championships.

Gyurta, the European champion, finished in a time of 2 minutes, 08.41. seconds Friday. Japan's Kitajima, who was on a world-record pace with 50 meters to go, took the silver in 2:08.63. Christian Vom Lehn of Germany earned the bronze in 2:09.06. AP
