Manchester, Jan 15: Paul Scholes scored his first goal since ending his short-lived retirement to help Manchester United to a 3-0 English Premier League win over Bolton on Saturday.
In the second match of his comeback, Scholes turned in Wayne Rooney's cross-shot in the 45th minute for his first goal since August 2010.
Danny Welbeck made it 2-0 in the 74th and Michael Carrick completed the scoring with seven minutes remaining as United moved level on points with leader Manchester City, which plays Wigan on Monday.
Rooney also had a first-half penalty saved by goalkeeper Adam Bogdan.
Having been a substitute in the FA Cup, Scholes started for the defending champions and fired two long-range shots and was lucky not to be punished for a thigh-high challenge on Mark Davies.
But Scholes made it 1-0 with a far-post finish from a shot by Rooney that Welbeck failed to get a touch to.
It was the 151st goal for United by Scholes, who was 10th on the club's all-time list.
United missed a string of chances but its second goal arrived 15 minutes from time, with Welbeck prodding his eighth goal of the season beyond Bogdan after reaching Rooney's lay-off ahead of Sam Ricketts.
The striker took a kick on the back of the leg while scoring and had to be replaced by Javier Hernandez.
But United maintained its momentum and, collecting Ryan Giggs' pass, Carrick curled a superb left-footed shot past Bogdan from about 25 meters (yards).
